Institute to host
November 2006 conference to discuss Bioterrorism and EMS response
to SARS Epidemic
On November 29th and
30th, 2006, the Institute will host William C. Patrick III,
former director of the US Army Surgeon General’s office of Biodefense
and Alexis Silverman, Infection control officer for the Toronto EMS
Department.
Mr. Patrick will share
his knowledge, acquired over 40-year career in biological agent defense.
His presentations will focus on his perceptions of the realities of
bioterrorism, agents presenting the greatest threat and the management
of white powder threats.
Ms. Silverman will
detail the Toronto EMS response to the first and second waves of the
SARS epidemic. She will specifically describe the lessons learned,
the lingering adverse impact to the EMS system. She will also detail
the significant changes in the paramedic response protocols that have
been implemented because of that experience.
